• Zoological or species name - Capreolus capreolus
• Also known as - Western Roe Deer or chevreuil
• Native to - Western Europe, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia and from the British Isles to the Caucasus.
• Head & body length - 3 to 4.4 feet (95 to 135 cm)
• Shoulder height - 2 to 2.5 feet (65 to 75 cm)
• 33 to 66 lbs (15 to 30 kgs)
• It is relatively small, reddish and grey-brown and well-adapted to cold environments. It is distinct from the somewhat larger Siberian Roe Deer.
• Only males have antlers. The first and second set of antlers are unbranched and short 2 to 4.7 inches (5 to 12 cm), while older bucks in good condition develop antlers up to 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 cm) long. Roe deer begin regrowing antlers almost immediately after they are shed.
