He is a hunter and fisherman who has edited various outdoor publications including Pennsylvania Outdoors, Michigan Sportsman, Gun Dog, Wisconsin Sportsman and Minnesota Sportsman. He lives in the state of Michigan, USA.

Gene Hill, entertained and informed an entire generation of sportsmen with his many books and his legendary monthly column in Field & Stream magazine. Hill was a skilled shooter and fly fisherman who never missed the opportunity to see humour in any outdoor situation. He died on 31st May 1997 and his passing marked the end of an era.
