Cassowary Blaze Orange Hunters Safety Vest Adult Description

Safety is a primary concern for hunters. The human eye is attracted to movement. People have been shot on countless occasions around the world because they were mistaken for an animal.

A hunting safety vest is usually orange in colour, made of a mesh-like material and some have reflective strips attached to them, increasing their visibility.

It has been proven that orange is by far the most visible colour in wooded areas. This simple vest will allow hunters to determine in a quick glance well before they shoot, that you are a human.

As a hunter, you need a safety vest that's comfortable, affordable and effective. It doesnt matter how long youve enjoyed this sport, how confident you are in the bush or how many people you take along for the trip, there's no excuse for not wearing a safety vest - one of the most important safety items you can buy.

The brighter the orange, the safer the vest. You can still have your camouflage clothing underneath, of course, especially in cooler weather, but be sure that the orange vest is on top of that.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported in Februray 2009 "while hunting continues to be very safe, there have been some accidental shootings that could have been prevented. Not all of those who were involved in shooting accidents were wearing the proper amount of sometimes-required and always-recommended hunter orange. If hunters think they are reducing the likelihood that deer will see them by forgoing orange safety hats and vests, they are mistaken. What deer can and cannot see is surprising. Deer are somewhat colourblind. During the day, deer see colours in what we could consider blue to yellow-green. Some believe they are completely red-green colourblind, like some humans. Wearing orange is a good practice when afield during any hunting season. Not properly identifying your target and what is beyond, is the leading cause of hunting fatalities. Although animal vision is often much better than human sight, distinguishing colours in daylight is not a strong point for the white-tailed deer, although detecting UV light is. A 1993 study determined what white-tailed deer see in daylight - they have two classes of cone photo-receptors; humans have three. Deer have dichromatic (two-colour) vision, while humans have trichromatic vision. So what deer don't see are the oranges and reds that stand out so well to people. These facts have been echoed by others. Orange is a colour not found in nature and most game animals cannot see the bright fluorescent colour, since they are colourblind."

In the USA, the majority of states and provinces recommend or require hunter orange clothing for most kinds of hunting activities.

Cassowary is a large flightless bird, confined to the jungle areas of North Queensland, Australia. They are not as tall as an emu but carry more bulk. Cassowaries have a reputation for being bad tempered and dangerous. Powerful kicks have killed children. They are good swimmers and used to swim the two miles to Hinchinbrook Island. The nests are very well hidden among leaves, usually at the base of trees in dense scrub or jungle. The eggs are green and usually there are between three and six eggs in a clutch. The male, like the emu, helps with the chicks.
